Welcome to the website for the Nonexempt Staff Senate!
UMBC has one of the strongest shared governances on the University of Maryland System (USM) campuses. It is in our best interest to keep the Nonexempt Staff Senate (NESS) strong and involved in all aspects of the University. Your participation in the Senate makes that possible.
NESS advises and makes recommendations to UMBC Administration on matters involving its members and makes recommendations, via the University Steering Committee, to the USM Board of Regents.
Members staff committees, including:

- Council of University System Staff (CUSS)
- Personnel Review Committee
- Landscape Stewardship Committee
- Campus Equity Advisory Council (CEAC)
- Athletic Policy Committee
- Library Policy Committee
- Research Council
- Information Technology Committee
- Staff Development Committee
Members also serve on ad hoc committees and many search committees.
Leadership in NESS is voluntary and encouraged. New officers, Senators, and committee representatives are selected yearly.
We are always happy to have new members. If you are interested in getting involved with your Senate, please get in touch with any of us or come to one our meetings this year. Your thoughts or suggestions are always welcome.
